OPPORTUNITY ALERT: Artists needed for Gwinnett Place Public Art & Placemaking Design Project

Help Shape the Future of Gwinnett Place

Create Gwinnett, in partnership with the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District and The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning, is seeking three artists to participate in the Gwinnett Place Public Art & Placemaking Design Development project.

Gwinnett Place is entering an exciting period of transformation, and we’re looking for artists with different creative practices and perspectives to explore how public art and placemaking can contribute to the district’s identity, experience, and future.

Selected artists will work collaboratively with the project team, community members, and one another to explore the district, participate in community and stakeholder engagement, and develop implementation-ready concepts for future public art and placemaking projects.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Three artists will be selected, with an emphasis on assembling a complementary, interdisciplinary team.

We’re interested in artists working across a range of practices, including:

• 2D art

• 3D art

• Interdisciplinary and experiential work

• Murals and sculptural works

• Creative seating and gathering spaces

• Interactive installations

• Environmental and landscape-integrated art

• Lighting and gateway features

• Other creative placemaking approaches

  
  

Previous public art or placemaking experience is preferred, but not required. Artists with strong professional practices and transferable experience are encouraged to apply.

Artists who live, work, maintain a studio, or have demonstrated connections to Gwinnett County are strongly encouraged to apply; however, the opportunity is open to artists regardless of location who can participate in required site visits and project activities.

AT A GLANCE

• Compensation: $5,000 per selected artist

• Artists Selected: 3

• Estimated Commitment: Approximately 50 hours per artist

• Project Period: October 2026 through January 31, 2027

• Application Deadline: September 21, 2026 at NOON

• Questions Due: September 16, 2026

This phase focuses on research, community engagement, concept development, and design. Fabrication and installation are not included in the current contract, although final designs may be commissioned by the Gwinnett Place CID in the future.

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS

You do not need to develop a project concept to apply.

Artists will be evaluated based on their previous work, professional experience, artistic practice, collaborative approach, and overall fit for the project. Selected artists will be paid to develop concepts after contracting and participating in the project’s site exploration and collaborative process.
