Artist Opportunity: Nicole Love Hendrickson Artway Public Art Installation
Create Gwinnett, in partnership with Gas South District, the Sugarloaf Community Improvement District, and The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning, is seeking artists for the Nicole Love Hendrickson Artway, a new public art and placemaking installation at Gas South District.
The project will transform the stairway and surrounding area connecting the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce to Gas South Arena, creating a unique placemaking experience that celebrates the connections between business, art, and entertainment in our community. The project will also recognize Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson’s support of the arts in Gwinnett County.
About the Opportunity
Artists working in 2D, 3D, interdisciplinary, experiential, and other placemaking-focused media are encouraged to apply. Potential approaches may include murals, sculptural works, creative seating, interactive installations, environmental art, gateway features, lighting elements, landscape-integrated artwork, and other experiential placemaking features.
Artists who live, work, maintain a studio, or have demonstrated connections to Gwinnett County are strongly encouraged to apply; however, the opportunity is open to all artists, regardless of location, who are able to participate in the required site visits and project activities.
Selection Process & Budget
This is a Request for Qualifications (RFQ). Artists should not submit project concepts at this stage. Applicants will be evaluated based on previous work, professional experience, artistic practice, and overall fit for the project.
Three finalists will be selected to advance to the concept development phase. Each finalist will receive a $1,500 stipend to develop a site-specific concept and participate in an interview/presentation. One artist will then be selected for final design and installation.
The anticipated budget for final design and installation is $20,000–$40,000, depending on the scale and complexity of the selected concept. Installation is anticipated to begin in April 2027.
