Savonna Nicole Atkins is a painter and textile artist living in Suwanee and working from her studio in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Her colorful abstract paintings and mixed-media textile work feature layered abundance, texture, and delicate details. Inspired by the natural world, Atkins creates compositions with the depth of a landscape, filtered through childhood memories, emotional expression, and imagined fantastical escapes. She reworks color combinations, edges, and paint transparencies by additive and subtractive means, lightly sanding the surface to expose sections of previous layers. Her painted shapes, brushstrokes, and broken lines reference her experience weaving, sewing, and manipulating sheer silks, frayed cotton, worn linen, sturdy upholstery fabric, and bulky knits in her textiles.
